ASC concert series

NPR's All Songs Considered podcast was alternating between their regular critique-style show and recorded concerts from the 9:30 club in DC for a while; now the concert recordings both are categorized separately and have been extended in length. The sound quality isn't good enough for hi-fi listening at home, but I find them perfect for background music in the office, for those times when being distracted a bit is okay.

I have a few on which to catch up; now playing is the Nov 9th Nickel Creek show, which I do recommend. (More specifically, I recommend at least the first nineteen minutes.)

Added mid-January: the New Pornographers recording is okay; the Neko Case show is better.

250 km with a thing on my shoe

That's right, Nike+ says I've logged 250 km with their nifty accelerometer. I'm sure they'd be happy to know that it was evenly split between my Adidas and Brooks runners.

Here's the braggart's page.

ornithological variety

commercial signage on Mayfield Rd:

ALL BRANDS
VACUUM
PENGUIN
CLEANERS

that advertising two distinct establishments: one dealing in floor cleaning, the other in laundry. I, of course, always read it as "all brands penguin" (maybe the first words are bigger or offset), but catch myself before pulling into the lot to see if they have any deals running.
